The Money Advice & Budgeting Service (MABS) was established by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs in 1992 and have offices nation-wide. They provide a free and confidential money management and advice service to everyone.
Its main purpose is to assist people who find themselves in difficulty and help them budget and manage their finance. They assist people at various levels:
- Devise a suitable budget plan
- Negotiate with creditors
- Give advice and support which is ongoing even when difficulties are overcome
- Work in partnership with credit unions
- Give talks to groups on money management, budgeting and other related issues
Plassey Credit Union partnership with MABS
Plassey Credit Union will open a special savings account for the member. The member can lodge in an agreed amount weekly or monthly as set out by MABS. MABS and Plassey Credit Union work together to distribute your money to your creditors each month. The service is free to the member.
